#TrusteesWeek Zion Hill Community Centre

7th -11th November 2022 – Now in its 12th year, Trustees’ Week is a celebration of the great work Trustee’s across the UK do.

It is the time of year when we come together to mark the achievements of the UK’s one million trustees.

Trustees’ week is an annual event to showcase the great work you do and provide opportunities for everyone to get involved and make a difference.

During Trustee’s Week we wanted to shine a light on, not only those who run organisations across Torfaen, but also some of the organisations we’ve helped with Governance.

Pontnewynydd Community Association came to TVA earlier this year looking for support, their Chairperson, Karen Browne, continues.

I contacted them initially back in January as our committee was on the verge of folding due to the retirement of some of our members and then being unable to fill the ‘officer’ roles needed to run a committee. TVA has helped us to recruit new board members and we are now going from strength to strength and not just ‘ticking along’ as we were previously.

The team at TVA has also worked with us to help secure much needed funding, update our policies and procedures, offer support and advice at committee meetings, and helped to promote events and activities.

Contacting TVA in the first instance was the best thing that I could have done in making our committee the strong team that it is today.

Torfaen Voluntary Alliance has been an invaluable source of support for us at Zion Hill Community Centre.

A great big thank you to all the team at TVA for your help and guidance over the past year, it really has been appreciated.

If you’re a local community group, organisation or charity in Torfaen, and you want further support, and want to grow, like how Karen describes above, please feel free to get in touch.

Being a trustee involves taking on significant responsibilities and time commitments and the role is almost always unpaid
